これは私とBlack Mass PublishingのYusuf Hassan（ユスフ・ハッサン）が2024年2月にやり取りした時の一部です。
 
CYRO:「能登地震から1カ月が経ちましたが、いまだに余震が続いています。被災地での水道復旧は4月に入ってからと聞きました。私もボランティアや 義援金を通じ、復興に向けた長期的な支援を続けているところです。ですが、私を含め街全体には元気がないように思えます。私の今年のテーマは、BAD BRAINSを手本に、『ポジティブ・メンタル・アティチュード』を持つことなんです。そしてそのためには、もっとエネルギーが必要なんです。 世の中には悲しいニュースがたくさんあります。 アートやzineには、その悲しみや憂鬱を晴らすエネルギーがあると私は信じています…。"
 
Yusuf:「この危機と不安の時代に、あなたとあなたの家族とコミュニティに平和と安らぎを届けます。きっとトンネルの先には光があるはず。世界が混沌としていることには私も同じ思いです。癒しと安らぎが私たち全員にとって必要です。zineによって、平和、愛、幸福、そしてコミュニケーションが得られると聞いて、うれしく思います。このようなことを皆さんと分かち合えることを嬉しく思います。また、私のzineの詩人たちはいつも美しく、詩はいつも源泉です。たとえ混乱の中にあっても、私たちは心の中に大きな平和を見いだし、自分自身の中に平和を見いだし、それをできるだけ多くの人と分かち合わなければなりません。」
 
…そして、Yusufは1冊のzineを作ってくれました。
 
本書ではGeorgia Douglas Johnson（ジョージア・ダグラス・ジョンソン：詩人）、Arna Bontemps（アーナ・ボンタン：詩人）の詩、そしてGordon Parks（ゴードン・パークス：写真家）の写真などを掲載。今は亡き偉大なアーティストの組み合わせによる交差は、私たち読者に新たな相互反応を与えます。
本書の制作のきっかけは能登半島地震ですが、zineに刻まれた言葉・写真はすべての方に向けて、込められています。
 
※本書は、制作にかかったコストを引いた売上の全てを「令和6年能登半島地震」の義援金に寄付します。
 
2019年に設立されたBlackMass Publishingは、ニューヨークを拠点とするコレクティブであり、黒人アーティストによる作品をプロモーションし、zineなどの"出版活動"をすることで"表現"を行っているインディペンデントプレスです。BlackMass Publishingは、視覚言語を通してコミュニティを育みながら会話を促進することに興味・関心を持っており、画像やテキストでの表現を通じて、ブラックネス、その効果、影響に焦点を当てています。
BlackMass Publishingの出版物は、ショーンバーグ黒人文化研究センター（ニューヨーク）、RAW Material Company（ダカール）、Center For Book Arts（ニューヨークのアート・ミュージアム）、トーマス J. ワトソン図書館、ニューヨーク公共図書館、ニューヨークラングストンヒューズ図書館、ザ・エバーグリーン州立大学などの永久ブックコレクションに収蔵されています。

CYRO“...It has been a month since the Noto earthquake. There are still aftershocks. We have heard that the water supply to the affected areas will not be restored until April. I am also continuing our long-term recovery activities through volunteering and fundraising.
So there is a lack of energy in Japan at the moment.
My theme for this year is to follow the example of the Bad Brains and have a 'positive mental attitude'. To do that, I need more energy.
There is a lot of sad news in the world.
I think art and zines have the energy to help lift that sadness and gloom.”
 
Yusuf“Sending you and your family and community peace and comfort during this time of crisis and uncertainty. Surely there will be light at the end of the tunnel. And I agree the world is in a state of chaos. Healing and comfort are needed amongst us all. I am happy to hear the zines allow for peace, love, and happiness, as well as communication. I’m happy to share these things with everyone.It brings me gratitude and happiness. Also, my zines of poets are always beautiful.Poetry is a source always.
But even in the turmoil, we must find great peace in our hearts, find peace in ourselves, and share it with others as much as possible.”
 
….Then Yusuf produced one zine.
 
This zine includes poems by Georgia Douglas Johnson and Arna Bontemps, and photographs by Gordon Parks. The intersections between the combination of great artists give us, the readers, a new mutual response.This zine was inspired by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, but the words and photographs inscribed in the zine are intended for all.
 
This zine will donate a portion of its sales to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024.
