ドイツを拠点に活動する写真家ネーヴェン・アルガイアーの最新作品集"A Hole in the Sky"です。アルガイアーの写真は、これまで環境の変化、政治、ポップカルチャー、サブカルチャーといった主題をめぐって展開されてきた。近年では、クンストハウス・ゲッティンゲンおよびナッサウ美術協会ヴィースバーデンにて、大規模な個展が開催されたほか、『SPIKE Art Quarterly』や『ZEIT Magazin』などのメディアにも作品を発表している。
本作において、アルガイアーは同時代における「スタイルの集団性」を探究していく。入念に構築された自己演出を強調するポートレートは、集団的な配置や関係性を捉えたイメージと並べられ、光に満ちた都市風景や自然の景観は、どこか魔法がかかったかのような細部の描写へと呼応する。本書には複数のテキストも収録されており、執筆者たちは自由な形式の文章によって、それぞれの視点から現代世界について語っている。彼らはいずれも、写真が撮影された都市――イスタンブール、ジャカルタ、トビリシ、ベルリン――に暮らす人々である。
 
A Hole in the Sky is the latest photobook by Germany-based photographer Neven Allgeier. His work has long engaged with themes such as environmental change, politics, pop culture, and subcultures. In recent years, Allgeier has presented major solo exhibitions at Kunsthaus Göttingen and Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden, and his photographs have appeared in publications including SPIKE Art Quarterly and ZEIT Magazin.
In this book, Allgeier explores the contemporary condition of the “collectivity of style.” Portraits that foreground carefully constructed self-presentation are set alongside images that register collective arrangements and relationships, while light-filled urban scenes and natural landscapes resonate with details rendered as if touched by a quiet spell. The volume also includes multiple texts, in which contributors reflect on the contemporary world through free-form writing from their own perspectives. All of the authors live in the cities where the photographs were taken—Istanbul, Jakarta, Tbilisi, and Berlin.
