フィンランドの森で育ち、現在はアムステルダムを拠点に活動するプイッコネンは、自然体で直感的な眼差しによって、人々や土地の本質を捉えてきた。本書が記録するのは、「Pilluralli（ピッルラッリ）」と呼ばれる、フィンランドの地方都市に根づく独特の若者文化である。改造したトヨタ・カローラやフォード・エスコートで町の広場やガソリンスタンド、駐車場を巡りながら夜を過ごすこの習慣は、仲間や新しく出会った相手を乗せて街を流す、カー・カルチャーと若者の反骨精神、そして社交の儀式が交差する文化でもある。

Raised in the Finnish woods and now based in Amsterdam, Puikkonen is known for his natural, intuitive way of capturing the essence of people and places. Cruise documents Pilluralli, a distinctive youth subculture rooted in small towns across Finland. Centered around modified Toyota Corollas and Ford Escorts, it is a tradition of driving between town squares, gas stations, and parking lots, spending long nights cruising with friends—or sometimes someone you've just met. Part car culture, part youthful rebellion, and part social ritual, Pilluralli occupies a unique place in Finnish life.
Rather than portraying it as mere aimless pastime, Puikkonen reveals Pilluralli as a community where young people cultivate belonging, creativity, and friendship. From wildly customized cars to the inventive ways teenagers carve out spaces of their own, the photographs observe this world with warmth, intimacy, and quiet humor.
Amid the hum of engines and the glow of taillights, Cruise presents Pilluralli as a stage for self-expression and companionship. It is both a nostalgic tribute to a fading tradition and a celebration of the human connections that continue to sustain it.
