Alba Yruela / Cherry Blossom, Don’t Cry

スペイン・カタルーニャ地方エンポルダ出身の写真家Alba Yruela（アルバ・ユルエラ）が、2023年に滞在した日本での体験をもとに制作した写真集。自然への親密なまなざしを原点に、これまで友人や恋人、身の回りの風景、そして孤独を滲ませたセルフポートレートを織り交ぜながら、繊細で率直な視点の作品を発表してきたユルエラ。本作では、喪失の感情とその先にある再生の兆しを、満開の桜とともに記録しています。

この本は、私にとってひとつの“パラダイムシフト”を記録した証です。
2023年、仕事で日本を訪れていた私は、しばらく深い悲しみの中にいました。
もっとも愛していたものを手放し、それを続けていく場所も、あるいは自分自身の居場所さえも、もうどこにもないのかもしれない -そんなふうに感じていたのです。
そんなとき、花が咲きました。
桜の静かな美しさが、そっと私を励ましてくれたように思います。
そして私は思い出したのです。自分のやるべきことを、もう一度やってみよう、と。

Cherry Blossom, Don’t Cry is a photobook by Alba Yruela, a photographer from Empordà in Catalonia, Spain, based on her experience during a stay in Japan in 2023.
With a deep sensitivity rooted in her connection to nature, Yruela has long documented her surroundings, friends, lovers, and the quiet weight of solitude through poignant self-portraits—always from a delicate yet direct perspective. In this work, she turns her gaze to a season of loss, and the quiet signs of renewal that followed, captured through the full bloom of cherry blossoms.
“I feel every book I make holds something special that begs to be created and this one, for me, is a testimonial of a paradigm shift.
I went to Japan for work in 2023, I had been feeling sad for a while, leaving behind what I loved doing most. It felt like there was no space for it anymore and maybe, no space for me either.
And then the flowers came. I believe they helped me. Cherry blossoms, with their quiet beauty, reminded me to do my thing again.
Bloom, too.”
