  • Aslı Özçelik / Sıhhatler Olsun [Regular Edition]

"This book, Sıhhatler Olsun, tells the story of my mother, who grew up in a small village in northeastern Turkey and emigrated to Germany at the age of 20. It focuses on her past. , which focuses on stories not often told until today."_Aslı

A collection of works by German-based artist Asli Özcelik.

In March 2020, the author started photographing his mother. It happened when the two had been living together in an apartment for about a month. During this period when many "things" left the family's hands, it was a very difficult and difficult day for the two of them. However, by working on this project, the two became closer than ever before, and by taking photographs, they built up their own "things." The two had many conversations about immigration, about their mother's hometown of Damar, Turkey, and explored the family archives together. Asri tried to reframe her mother's life. Although I had a general idea of how my mother felt about her past, I knew very little about the facts and details of when, where, and with whom she spent time. The reconstruction helped me to better understand my mother's current feelings, and the reconstruction was an experience that made me feel closer to her, who was about the same age as the current author.

While working on the project, researching immigration history and delving into migrant workers, Asli was shocked. It was the fact that few books and films dealt with the experiences of women migrant workers compared to men.

"Working on this project was very hard because it also forced me to face the theme that I had been suppressed. The project was not only for my own growth, but also what my mother has done so far. But it is the story of a woman who, until today, is underappreciated.I want her story to be known…"_Aslı

While this work tells the story of a female migrant worker, it is a collection of works filled with the "parent-child love" of the author "daughter" and the subject "mother".
