Yuri Iwamoto x Misa Asanuma / Realfacestan
"Real Face Tan" is an artist book created by Misa Asanuma and Yuri Iwamoto during their approximately one-month residency in Toyama.
"Real Face Tan is a space where the casual curiosity exchanged between us flows like a syrup.
Parallelism, repetition, reflection, pursuit, digestion. After a number of passes, a mellow and vague form emerges, yet one that seems convinced that this is fine.
A warm and sunny real face tan. A selfish real face tan.”
During the roughly one-month residency and creative process in Toyama Prefecture, various topics emerged in the course of daily life. Why is it good? What is good about it? By assimilating the tactile sensation of "like" using each other's means (glass, snapshots, drawing, etc.), we tried to clarify this as accurately as possible.
An ordinary tree, a new color, a spectacular performance on the other side of the screen, a firefly squid, an unconscious sculpture or mural I saw on a trip, a kitchen, a cup... Sometimes running side by side, sometimes passing the ball to each other, I relentlessly pursued the sensations of comfort, curiosity, and awe.
These "likes" take shape with a reproduction rate of around 60%, with the corners smoothed away within the constraints of materials and the flow of conversation. This book compiles the impressions and feelings of the two artists, including those uncontrollable spaces, as a visual sketchbook.
Asanuma's works have a "voice" that consistently reaches the viewer, transcending the mediums of photography, ceramics, drawing, etc. It exists as firmly as the warmth of each person's body, blending lightly into the space and spreading out, while at the same time strongly drawing the viewer in.
On the other hand, Iwamoto's glass works are imbued with the breathing and dynamism of wild creatures. Combining cuteness and vitality, no two pieces have the same texture, and we never tire of looking at them, even as time passes.
"Real Face Tan" is the result of these two artists' different ways of expressing themselves, interacting with each other and exchanging messages like letters.
The paper bags that cover the books each feature a drawing by the artist, and each one is unique.
Limited to 100 copies. With each page you turn, you will experience the atmosphere of the two voices intersecting and resonating with each other.Yuri Iwamoto

Hot glass moves like a living thing, and I create shapes to preserve that energy and soft expression.
