  • THE OTHER’S LANGUAGE JACQUES DERRIDA INTERVIEWS ORNETTE COLEMAN, 23 JUNE 1997

A conversation between jazz saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman and French philosopher Jacques Derrida. This conversation took place three times between late June and early July 1997, with Coleman at La Villette (a museum and performing arts complex located north of Paris that includes the world-famous Paris Conservatory). This was realized before and during the concert. In the conversation, Derrida interviews Coleman about his views on composition, improvisation, language, and racism, and the most interesting points are their respective ideas about "language of origin" and their experiences with racial prejudice. It seems that this is where it is concentrated. _BlackMass Publishing
