"Getting started is actually the hardest part. Once you get started, the rest may or may not happen. But at least you've already cleared the important hurdles." _Sophie Thun

An artist book designed by Sophie Thun herself, published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Vienna-based artist run "Secession" from April 30th to June 21st, 2020.

This work, SECESSION, challenges viewers to understand artistic practice from the perspective of creation, rather than focusing solely on the completed work. Dozens of test prints and notebooks with technical information, byproducts of her darkroom work, document the preliminary aspects of her process, allowing viewers to see how she You can get a feel for how a creative piece of work can be completed.

This is an art book that visualizes the scene in which "the process itself becomes a work", which is a characteristic of the author's work, and is expressed using the sequence of a book that turns the pages.

Sophie Thun (born 1985, lives in Vienna, Austria)

He primarily creates works by making full use of analog photography techniques, space, process, and production and exhibition conditions. Her work is deeply connected to the context of self-portraiture in European art history, weaving together texts dating back to the 16th century that draw on contemporary young aspiring artists to explore the very challenges they face today. We will also focus on the unfortunate situation within the current art system.

Tung spends much of his time working in the darkroom, bringing his body into direct contact with the photographic paper. Through this, she creates shadows and traces, incorporates them into new images, and transforms them into complex arrangements in space. By directly modifying her photographic works, painting, which is the origin of her artistic medium, is constantly recognized and visualized.
