ニューヨークを拠点に活動するアーティスト サリー・J・ハン（1993年、中国・瀋陽生まれ）の作品集。本作はニューヨークで開かれた同名の個展によって制作された。
口紅の跡が残るナプキンや安部公房の小説『他人の顔』、買い物リスト、菓子、飲み物など、日常の中で身近に存在するモチーフが数多く描かれている。これらは一見すると無関係に見える要素だが、画面の中で組み合わされることで、一つの場面として構成されている。そうしたイメージは、作家自身の経験や記憶に基づいており、「Lost and Found（失われ、そして見出される）」という名によって的確に言い表されている。
中国に生まれ、2歳から韓国で育ち、現在はニューヨークで制作を続けるハンの背景は、複数の時間や場所が重なり合う感覚として作品の中に読み取ることができる。
そうした断片的な要素が緻密に配置され、一枚の絵画として統合されるとき、独特の引力が生まれる。トランプや本、食卓の情景、小さな動物や身の回りのオブジェクト -それらは作家自身の経験や思考の軌跡を反映しながらも、鑑賞者それぞれの記憶や感情を喚起し、作品へと引き込んでいく。
また、ハンの作品は個人的な記録としての側面を持ちながらも、過去の美術作品との関係性の中でも捉えることができる。たとえばフリーダ・カーロの絵画への参照に見られるように、既存のイメージを取り入れながら、それを自身の構図や主題の中で再構成している。このような方法によって、個人的なモチーフと美術史的な要素が同時に画面の中に存在している。
本書『Lost and Found』は、こうしたハンの実践を通じて、個人的な記憶と共有されうるイメージのあいだにある領域を示す一冊である。日常のささやかな瞬間に潜む細部へのまなざしと、それらを見つめ直す作者の視点の強度を感じさせる。
 
This is a monograph by New York–based artist Sally J. Han (b. 1993, Shenyang, China), published in conjunction with her solo exhibition of the same title held in New York.
The works feature a wide range of familiar, everyday motifs—lipstick-stained napkins, a copy of Kōbō Abe’s novel The Face of Another, grocery lists, sweets, and drinks. While these elements may appear unrelated at first glance, they are composed within the picture plane to form a single scene. These images are rooted in Han’s own experiences and memories, aptly reflected in the title Lost and Found.
Born in China, raised in South Korea from the age of two, and now working in New York, Han’s background can be perceived in the work as a layering of multiple times and places.
As these fragmentary elements are meticulously arranged and unified within a single painting, a distinct sense of cohesion emerges. Playing cards, books, dining scenes, small animals, and everyday objects—while reflecting Han’s personal experiences and thoughts—also evoke the viewer’s own memories and emotions, drawing them into the work.
At the same time, Han’s paintings can be understood not only as personal records but also in relation to art historical references. As seen in the engagement with the work of Frida Kahlo, existing imagery is incorporated and reconfigured within Han’s own compositions and themes. In this way, personal motifs and art historical elements coexist within the same pictorial space.
Lost and Found presents these aspects of Han’s practice, offering insight into the space between personal memory and shared imagery. It reveals a careful attention to the subtle details embedded in everyday moments, and a perspective that reconsiders them with clarity and intensity.
