Nathalie Du Pasquier / Gabon 1977 [50 LIMITED EDITION]

An adventure and memory from when Nathalie de Pasquier was not yet an artist.

"Gabon 1977 - Un Don Juan chez les gendarmes -" is a small two-volume set based on Nathalie de Pasquier's experiences when she spent six months in Gabon, a former French colony in Africa, before she turned 20 and began her career as an artist, and before moving to Italy.

During her time in Port-Gentil, the country's second city, she made a new friend. A newspaper clipping from that friend inspired her to create a colorful and humorous story of African life, featuring a slightly goofy Don Giovanni who gets the local people involved. The humor and composition, which are in keeping with the French comic book tradition, shed light on her origins.

The other volume contains a record of the unpublished comic, as well as short essays and reconstructions of his youthful travels and memories of lost letters and sketches.
"I felt strange when I found this book. It felt like a forgotten relic, bound together with old tape, and I couldn't understand why this was the only thing that remained, since I had lost all my records before coming to Italy - letters, drawings, photographs. This was my first work...I can still see myself in this book. And more than anything, it still makes me laugh. That's the kind of work it is," she says.

This book is a quiet memorial of Pasquier's early years, tracing her vivid path since her time in Memphis.

The Special Edition comes in a transparent bag designed by Pasquier himself for this book (limited to 50 copies).

A story of adventure and memory, from a time before Nathalie Du Pasquier became an artist.

Gabon 1977 – Un Don Juan chez les gendarmes is a small two-volume publication based on the six months Nathalie Du Pasquier spent in Gabon—a former French colony in Africa—before the age of twenty, before she set out on her path as an artist, and before she moved to Italy.

During her time in Port Gentil, the country's second-largest city, she formed new friendships. One of those friends handed her a newspaper clipping that would inspire the comic she created: a story full of vivid African colors and contagious humor, centered on a slightly clumsy Don Giovanni who stirs up cheerful chaos among the locals. The structure and wit of this early bande dessinée reflected with the long tradition of French comics, and cast a revealing light on Du Pasquier's creative beginnings.

The second booklet features documentation of this previously unpublished comic, along with a brief essay and reconstructed fragments of a youthful journey—recollections of lost letters, sketches, and drawings.

“It was strange to come across this book, bound together with aging sticky tape, this forgotten relic, because I lost everything I had done before coming to Italy: the letters, the drawings and the photos. I don't even know how it survived: I would like to think that it was the first thing I did, that I can still see myself in it, because most of all it still makes me laugh.”

This quiet monument to her early years traces back through the vivid trajectory that followed Memphis, offering a glimpse into the origins of Nathalie Du Pasquier's humor and perspective.

For the Special Edition, the book is enclosed in a clear bag specially designed by Du Pasquier himself (limited to 50 copies).
