Michel Medinger / Lord of Things
A collection of works by Luxembourg-born photographer Michel Medinger (born 1941). The artist has created his own special world using a wide range of techniques, including black and white photography, darkroom work using his own chemicals, Cibachrome and Polaroid. The core of his surrealist and baroque work is still lifes taken over 30 years, which when turned into works express subversive themes, irreverent humor, and a theatrical aspect where life and death intersect with lyricism. Medinger is also an avid collector, and outside the studio he collects objects from everyday environments and uses them to compose his own compositions and photographic tableaux, like the exhibits in his "Strange Room". Medinger leaves nothing to chance in his work. This book is a collection of Michel Medinger's lesser known, some of which have never been published before, discovered during research for the Rencontres d'Arles 2024 and the exhibition "Michel Medinger - Lord of Things" in Luxembourg.
