Michalis Pichler / Publishing Manifesto
Michalis Pichler / Publishing Publishing Manifestos
Michalis Pichler is an artist and the founder and current director of the German art book fair "MISS READ: The Berlin Art Book Fair & Festival." In 2018, he published "Publishing Manifestos," a collection of diverse manifestos by artists, writers, editors, publishers, designers, zine writers, and activists. This book, "Publishing Manifestos," includes an essay Pichler wrote as the preface to "Publishing Manifestos." While this is an introductory essay, it is packed with rich topics, and the Korean and Chinese versions of "Publishing Manifestos" have already been published. The essay considers publishing as both an artistic and political practice, exploring from various angles the background of the art book scene, which has been gaining attention in recent years, including the economics of independent publishing, book fairs as public spaces, and post-digital publishing. In addition to the original content, the Japanese version of this book includes an interview with Hirayama Masahisa, a roundtable discussion with Kato Naonori and Kano Daisuke of NEUTRAL COLORS, and artist Miyagi Futoshi, and other unique content that incorporates a Japanese perspective.
