Luka Perkins-Petit / OKTA-9
This is a collection of works by Luka Perkins-Petit, a visual artist and photographer based in Arles, France. OKTA-9 is a speculative photographic work on climate engineering. Of the many climate policies available, only one is believed to be capable of lowering the Earth's average temperature in just a few months. Will its implementation bring hope or catastrophe? From carbon capture to cloud thinning devices, this project invites readers to imagine what the world might be like after unpredictable technologies are put into operation.
Drawing on real patents and a fictional device designed to control the climate, OKTA-9 depicts a reality that lies on the border of possibility. In a world where engineering has become a survival strategy, familiar landscapes are slightly shifted from their axis, exuding a somewhat alien atmosphere. What unfolds before us is an unstable visual universe filled with doubt, premonition, and a dizzying uncertainty.
