Keiji Ishida / HOME is HOME
"HOME is HOME" by Los Angeles-based Japanese artist Keiji Ishida is a collection of works capturing moments the artist experienced in the United States between 2020 and 2023.
Born in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture and raised in Los Angeles, California, he portrays moments that have deeply shaped him by revealing the complexities of human relationships through the lens of immigration. These moments emerge especially in the context of coronavirus, immigration, the comical beauty of American culture, and even current events. Moreover, his perspective on the definition of home projects the common conflict faced by many individuals who move between two different cultures. Having experienced the duality of identity and the complex relationship between two homelands, for him, the concept of "home" is not limited to a single geographical location, but is nothing other than a dynamic blend of experiences, memories, and emotions from both Japan and the United States. By exhibiting this series in his native Japan, he also aims to bridge the gap between these two spaces.
