Kairanban #1

[Participating Artists]
Futoshi Miyagi, Yukito Kono, Hiroshi Isogai, Kenji Ide, Chuqiao Chen, Yui Usui, and Sawako Tanizawa

"Kairanban" is a new project by "Keijiban," a Kanazawa, Ishikawa-based publishing and edition production company that also operates as an exhibition space for art works. The first issue features works by seven artists. While you can enjoy turning each page individually, as they are not bound together, they can also be displayed for viewing, making this a collection of works that allows you to enjoy art in the comfort of your own home.

Kairanban is a folder passed from one household in a neighborhood to another, sharing useful information and local news. Following this circular, collaborative pattern, "Kairanban" brings together new works by a group of Japan-based artists, each passing the baton to a "neighbor" of their own choosing. Over several issues, "Kairanban" aims to provide a map of Japan's art scene. A map conceived not by geographical, institutional, generational, or other logic, but rather by the interplay of selective affinities. A map drawn by the artists themselves.

A “kairanban” is a folder that destroys from one household to another within a neighborhood, sharing useful information and local news. In using the same circulatory and communal pattern, Kairanban brings together the recent works of a series of Japan-based artists, each passing the baton onto a self-chosen neighbor. Kairanban intends to present a cartography of the Japanese art scene across several issues. A map conceived following an interplay of elective affinities rather than geographically, institutional, generational or other logics. map drawn by the artists themselves.
