Josh Kern / Support NOTO Print
To those affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, and to help with the recovery of the affected areas,
I would like to support the cause in some way, so I will be selling prints of my work.
German-based photographer Josh Kern participated in this project!
All proceeds from the sale of this print will be donated, minus the costs of producing it.
Donations will be made to accounts set up by the affected municipalities to accept donations.
Josh Kern
A photographer based in Germany, his photographs often express the passion, joy and anguish of youth. His photographs, taken exclusively with film cameras, have a strong materiality. He photographs the world around him and creates expressive works such as dyeing, bleaching, drawing and collage to record the passage of time. He has published four books to date: Fuck Me (Dienacht, 2018), Love Me (Eigensinn, 2020), Raüber (Eigensinn, 2021) and Hallo Aslı (Eigensinn, 2023).
"The camera went with me everywhere and it had become a part of me. It allowed me to be unashamed and show how I capture life in its intensity and beauty. I found an outlet to unashamedly express how I felt, my critical views of our generation and myself, and my love for life in general." - Josh Kern

CYRO, which also operates in Ishikawa Prefecture, was recently reconsidering the significance of opening a store in this area.
The earthquake occurred on January 1st, and the area where our store is located recorded a seismic intensity of 5+, so I hurriedly evacuated with my 7-year-old son and his family.
Fortunately, we were safe, but since that day, my son has been afraid of earthquakes and has become a little more timid than before.
I am also a very timid person. I was terrified of aftershocks and could not do anything for days on end.
After a week had passed, I consulted with some of the artists I regularly work with.
They listened to my current situation and thoughts, and said they wanted to support me.
Even if you can't do anything alone, if you connect with others, you can make something happen.
And I hear it will take a long time to recover.
In the seven years since we opened our shop, we have been influenced in many ways by the culture and abundant nature of Oku-Noto, including the Suzu International Art Festival, the aquarium, hot springs, and the Wajima morning market.
Although our contribution may be small, we would like to continue connecting and supporting you.
The boxes used to store and ship this item are square-studded boxes handmade by artisans at Ozaki Paper Box, located in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
*This item is scheduled to be shipped from around February 10th.
