Gerwald Rockenschaub / reappropriation (allure / construct)
This is a collection of works by Gerwald Rockenschaub (born 1952), who is currently one of Austria's leading contemporary artists.
Since his artistic beginnings in the Neo-Geo movement of the 1980s, Rockenschaub has developed works characterized by radical reduction and precision.
He is also active as a techno DJ and electronic music composer, and his activities are reflected in his works, absorbing everyday images and forms such as logos, signs, and pictograms, and moving away from the surrealist and concrete traditions. I create sculptures, wall installations, and animations with quotations.
In developing minimal yet complex formal and chromatic interventions, Rockenschaub demonstrates keen insight into the special setting of an exhibition. One of the essential aspects of his art is that it disrupts common sense of vision and perception. For Linz Castle Museum, Rockenschaub combines an innovative color concept with works from different phases of his work. The title of the exhibition and the accompanying collection of works suggest the act of reconsidering past works and transposing them into a different context. The catalog ``reappropriation (allure / construct)'' records the exhibition and includes an introduction by the artist.
