Erin O'Keefe / GO BETWEEN

A4 poster work by New York-based photographer Erin O'Keefe.

As the title of this work, "GO BETWEEN" (meaning "to enter between" or "intermediate" in Japanese) suggests, the work directs the viewer's gaze into various "gaps" (areas), such as "between two objects," "between light and shadow," "between the work and the viewer," and "between a painting and a photograph." The spatial illusion and visual fluctuations that are characteristic of O'Keeffe's work invite the viewer into the work and question the very essence of seeing.
In accordance with O'Keeffe's wishes, proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which provides support to the areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake and to refugees.

Artist Profile

Erin O'Keeffe is a New York-based photographer with a background in architecture who is interested in creating work that explores spatial perception.
O'Keeffe's work is filled with visual play, created by colorful geometric shapes and the intricate manipulation of light and shadow. Through her camera, the painted wooden structures she photographs are reconstructed into an abstract and uncertain world, where spatial depth and scale are unclear. The distortions and visual misinterpretations that occur when a camera converts three-dimensional shapes into two-dimensional images—this inevitable discrepancy—are a central theme of her work. By fusing an architectural perspective with the characteristics of photography, O'Keeffe questions the limits of perception, creating unique visual experiences that challenge the viewer's perception.

She has published two art books, Built Work (Jane & Jeremy, 2020) and How are Things (Distanz, 2023), and has recently exhibited at Seventeen Gallery in London, Sargent's Daughters Gallery in New York, and Ncontemporary Gallery in Milan.

Artist Profile.

Erin O'Keefe is a New York-based photographer. Her background in architecture led to her interest in creating works that explore spatial perception.

O'Keefe's work is full of colorful geometric shapes and visual play created by the precise manipulation of light and shadow. The painted wooden forms she photographs are reconfigured through the camera into an uncertain, abstract world where spatial depth and scale are ambiguous. The distortions and visual misunderstandings that occur when the camera transforms three-dimensional forms into two-dimensional images - this inevitable misalignment becomes the central challenge of her work. By combining an architectural perspective with the characteristics of photography, O'Keefe questions the limits of perception and creates a unique visual experience that shakes the viewer's perception.

She has published two art books, 'Built Work' (Jane & Jeremy, 2020) and 'How are Things?' (Distanz, 2023). She has recent exhibitions of her work at Seventeen Gallery in London, Sargent's Daughters Gallery in New York, and Contemporary Gallery in Milan.
