Eric Asamoah / Forever Lasts Until It Ends
Becoming an adult
Eric Asamoah's (born 1999 in Linz, Austria) photographic work is influenced by his engagement with evolving trends in black thought. He expresses the complexities that underlie the visual cultures of youth, blackness, and immigration. Before turning his ideas into artworks, Asamoah records his thoughts in diaries and notebooks. More than mere preparatory notes, these writings provide an emotional foundation that further distinguishes his photographic projects from the work of other young artists of his generation.
This book highlights Asamoah's two major analog photography projects, "Forever Lasts Until It Ends" (2022) and "The Day After Tomorrow" (2021). For both projects, Asamoah traveled to his parents' homeland, Ghana. The photographs, taken in the West African Republic, tell a story about the delicate period of adolescence, rites of passage, emotions, dreams, and community as a holistic sense of the transition to adulthood and independence. The book also includes an essay and a conversation with the artist.
