Christopher Wool, Sebastian Girard/ BLACK BOOK ORANGE

This book, BLACK BOOK ORANGE, is a limited edition of 50 copies published by the French publisher Sebastien Girard. It is a bootleg version of Christopher Wool's masterpiece, "Black Book," 75/350. This is why Sebastien Girard is credited on the title page and spine. To avoid confusion, the number 75 has also been added. The subject matter of this book calls into question the very notions of authorship and copyright. _Sebastien Girard

*Quote from a book on Roman sculpture:

As we noted at the beginning of this album on Greek sculpture, the familiar concept of artistic ownership was alien to the ancients. Confronted with Greek masterpieces through its conquests, Rome certainly did not remain indifferent to them, but it did not want to compete with them, nor did it consider itself required to do so, and so it assumed a different role.

*Christopher Wool / BLACK BOOK

Large enough to evoke Christopher Wool's iconic paintings, Black Book resembles a tabletop exhibition of his signature words: nine-letter words, each one syllable on three lines, each with a hidden narrative quality.

Note: This book is a bootleg version of the 1989 edition.
(1) It is not a work by Christopher Wool (either alone or in collaboration with Sébastien Girard),
(2) There is no Christopher Wool signature.
(3) Not authorized by Christopher Wool.
