Carine Krecké / Perdre le nord
A collection of works by Carine Krecké, a Luxembourgish artist and writer born in 1965. Krecké engages in interdisciplinary activities that cross the boundaries of art, literature, and geopolitics.
The film "Perdre le nord" focuses on areas of Iraq and Syria formerly controlled by the terrorist organization Daesh, and explores themes such as surveillance, war, violence, and terrorism. Forensic methods such as open-source data and geospatial intelligence are questioned and repurposed in a documentary project that disrupts the boundaries between reality and fiction, truth and falsehood, present and past, and even author and character.
Kläcke's research has been ongoing for several years, and has involved the construction of a wide and complex archive, particularly of cartographic information. In order to translate technical data into the realm of aesthetics, she uses a variety of media, from visual art to literature.
This work will win the Luxembourg Photography Prize in 2025 and will be exhibited at the Arles International Photography Festival in the same year in the Charité, curated by Kevin Mullen, director of the Casino Luxembourg Forum for Contemporary Art, and Michel Vallerich, head of the photography department at the Luxembourg Audiovisual Centre.
This book is published in collaboration with Lët'z Arles and the Luxembourg Audiovisual Centre (CNA).
