“While exploring Pantelleria, I felt like I had finally found what I had been looking for all along….This place has a perfectly harmonious aesthetic that impresses me. There are no signs or markers to spoil the view.Damuso* is a wall made of volcanic rock and built according to strict building rules. When you are on this island, you feel like you are in an everlasting ecstasy. I feel like."_Bastien Lattanzio
(*A traditional house in Pantelleria, a stone house using volcanic rock)
In 2016, the author visited Pantelleria for the first time.
Damuso houses with white roofs. Arabic culture blended into Italian culture. The road that cuts through the cliffs circles the island, like the rings of Jupiter. A landscape of black rock cliffs piercing the endless blue sea... My heart was completely stolen from the first time I visited. And every year, every summer, I repeat to visit. For years...
“Islanders drive unlocked old Fiat 500s and vintage British 4WDs when they go shopping. There are only 12 restaurants on the island, limiting your choices. Negroni is the best after a trip by boat. The idea of turning this island into a book was a very natural delivery. It was my personal desire to record the beauty of the place, to leave it somewhere immortal so that I can remember it when I miss it. ”
This book is unified throughout with the texture of film and warm colors. Portraits of people whose facial expressions are completely invisible and fragmentary scenes of islands provoke the reader's memory and imagination, generating images of summer time and the sun.
