Aslı Özcelik / Waiting For The Sun To Shine
A collection of works by German-based artist Asli Özcelik.
_“For a few months, what I did was go through my archives to find new photos, take a walk to the next door copy shop or drug store to have it printed, and find Rekindling the excitement of seeing a photograph for the first time, I painted over it: how the photograph changed, how the paint pointed out different parts of the photograph, or the actual image. I loved seeing how it could destroy and completely draw attention to itself.
Among the photos, there are some that turned out so well that I can finally think of their meaning now, and others that, despite repainting over and over again, just didn't feel right and I made my own adjustments. there was. _Asli
One night, Asli discovered the art of painting on photographs. She was so excited that she couldn't sleep all night, and by the time her friends woke up the next morning, Asli had sent them dozens of emails saying, "You've found a treasure!" Asli quickly goes to a nearby art supply store to stock up on paints and tools and start experimenting.
_“Working with paint was completely new to me, as working with color was basically a complete unknown. By using it as a base, I was able to create a familiar base for me.”
