Aslı Özcelik / No title [inkjet print 60 x 45cm ]【PRINT ONLY】
Prints by Germany-based artist Asli Özcelik. This work is a very valuable one that was actually used for the artist's exhibition.
"For a few months, what I did was go through my archives to find new photos, take a walk to the next door copy shop or drug store to have it printed, and pick up my photos. Rekindling the excitement of seeing it for the first time, I painted over it: how the photograph changed, how the paint pointed out different parts of the photograph, or destroyed the actual image. Some of the pictures turned out so well that it only made sense to me now, and others had to be repainted over and over again. However, it didn't feel right, so I had to come up with my own ideas."
_Asli
One night, Asli discovered the art of painting on photographs. She was so excited that she couldn't sleep all night, and by the time her friends woke up the next morning, Asli had sent them dozens of emails saying, "You've found a treasure!" Asli quickly goes to a nearby art supply store to stock up on paints and tools and start experimenting.
_“Working with paint was completely new to me, as working with color was basically a complete unknown. By using it as a base, I was able to create a familiar base for me.”
59 overpainted photos created after months of practice since March 2020. The completed work collection "Waiting For The Sun To Shine" will be published by Eigensinn in 2021. After that, this work was printed by inkjet for the artist's actual exhibition in Aalen, Germany in 2022.
