Anna Izquierdo Gilabert / I'm okay
Adolescence is complicated... Changes and discoveries can occur that are beyond your control. For those of you who remember how complicated your teen years were...
This is the first photo book by Anna Izquierdo Gilabert, a photographer and artist based in Barcelona. This book depicts a strange and clumsy period in one's life.
This two-volume book examines the use of photography in female adolescence. The artist revisits photographs of herself as a teenager and explores girls from different historical eras who, like the artist, have used photography as a resource for self-awareness, staging, experimentation, and control over their own appearance. , which explores how I have been trying to better understand myself and my appearance.
Volume 1 contains four letter essays written by the author to four young women discussing self-portraits. Through essays, the author discusses topics such as using mirrors, acting, narcissism, filtering, and the birth of social networks.
In the second volume of the photo collection, the author returns to her own old self-portraits and connects them with portraits of other women in their youth living in modern society, expressing the discomfort, doubts, ephemerality and awkwardness of youth. It highlights that emotions are universal and experienced by everyone.
The title "I'm Okay" summarizes the strange feeling of an adolescent woman who is between pleasantness and disgust, between childhood and adulthood, between being able to clearly express her feelings and not being able to express them. I'm here.
