Archive: Guy Debord

It has been announced that Gendai Shicho Shinsha, a publisher of many important works in the fields of philosophy and art, will be going out of business at the end of this month (the end of September 2025). For me, this news represents a great loss, and I am reminded once again of the profound influence I have had on many of the books published by this company.
In particular, the Japanese version of Guy Debord's works is an important book that I have read over and over again.
I have repeatedly spoken about this topic in my shop and in my daily conversations, so many of you may be thinking, "Here we go again...", but I have been deeply influenced by Debord's ideas and writings, and especially his "view of work".
Now, taking advantage of the closure of Gendai Shicho Shinsha (not due to any direct connection or reason, but due to personal reasons), we will be holding a "Guy Debord Special Feature" at CYRO space, something we have always wanted to do.
As always, the space is quite small, so the venue may be full with one or two people. We do not require appointments, but if you have a specific time on a specific day, please feel free to contact us. We would be delighted if you would share some quiet time with us, enjoying a book or film.

Guy Debord
Artist Profile
French filmmaker and revolutionary thinker (1931-1994).
In 1952, Debord released his first film, Screams for Sade. In 1957, he founded the Situationist International (SI). In 1967, he published The Society of the Spectacle, and is considered a pioneer of the 1968 May Revolution. His activities extended beyond filmmaking and writing, encompassing a wide range of artistic expression across borders, including illustrated books (his representative work: Mémoires) made entirely from repurposed existing advertisements, maps, novels, and comic magazines. After the SI disbanded in 1972, he continued to make films and write while also being involved in revolutionary movements in Italy and Spain, but he later became ill and committed suicide.
